Tony McManus and Bruce Molsky go back a long way as musical colleagues. This will be a special evening and musical reunion after a long time.
Hailed by John Renbourn as ‘the best Celtic guitarist in the world,’ Tony McManus has been included as one of the 50 transcendental guitarists of all time by Guitar Player Magazine. Tony’s incredible gift as a finger style guitarist, composer and arranger started in his hometown just outside of Glasgow, Scotland. He draws on traditions from the entire Celtic diaspora – Scotland, Ireland, Brittany, Galicia, Asturias, Cape Breton, Quebec – along with still further-ranging flavors, such as jazz and eastern European music. He is a true musician of the world. It’s just remarkable to see all those influences so beautifully and completely arranged on one instrument through his brilliant brain.
Grammy-nominated, described as “an absolute master” (No Depression) and longtime Beacon local, Bruce Molsky transports audiences to another time and place, with his authentic and personal interpretations of rarities from the Southern Appalachian songbook and other musical traditions from around the globe. Best known for his work on the fiddle, Bruce’s banjo, guitar and his distinctive, powerful vocals also resonate with listeners. His combination of technical virtuosity and relaxed conversational wit makes a concert hall feel like an intimate front porch gathering.
