Tony Trischka and Robot Plane is a newly formed four-piece band, steeped in Bluegrass, while stretching out into Celtic, Americana and progressive territories.
Banjo legend Tony Trischka is known as “the father of modern bluegrass” (New York Times) and is a three time Grammy nominee, most recently for producing Steve Martin’s Rare Bird Alert, featuring Paul McCartney and the Chicks. Folks with whom he’s performed or recorded include Billy Strings, Miley Cyrus, John Denver, William S. Burroughs, Pete Seeger, Natalie Merchant, and many more, including his most prominent former student, Bela Fleck. He’s also a pioneering educator with his on-line Tony Trischka School of Banjo which has world-wide reach.
Jared Engel is a bassist extraordinaire. He’s been a mainstay of the New York City music scene for going on 20 years, and can also be found hauling around a tuba or banjo. He’s incredibly versatile on the upright and has graced recordings and performances with such luminaries as Steve Martin, David Grisman and Abigail Washburn.
Jacob Jolliff sings and holds down the mandolin chair with brilliant dexterity. A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Jacob is an alumnus of the roots based Joy Kills Sorrow and the jamgrass ensemble Yonder Mountain String Band. Most recently he’s been touring with Bela Flecks’ My Bluegrass Heart but also fronts his own stellar band. His playing will leave your jaw agape.
Scottish born Hannah Read is a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, equally in demand in the US and the UK. Her fiddling is sumptuous, whether blazing on a Bluegrass breakdown, or supporting one of her gorgeous originals. In 2017 she was part of an English/Scottish supergroup that won Album of the Year at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Hannah’s voice will melt your heart.
