KJ Denhert is a NYC-based songwriter, guitarist, vocalist and bandleader whose soulful and smoky vocal stylings are earthy and elegant.
“After finishing an album, I joined Michele (Gedney) and Judy (Kass) for an amazing week of songwriting in Nashville with other collaborators,” says KJ. “We came away with some great new songs. Long time friends, Michele, Judy and Elly (Wininger) had been sharing songs these last few months over lunch. When Phil asked about a Towne Crier date I thought wouldn’t it be great to pepper the set with some of these new songs and invited my award winning songwriting friends to open the show.”
The NY Unit is a band KJ started in 1997. It has toured globally, made 9 albums and enjoyed residencies from NY’s West Village to Italy and St Barthelemy.
KJ says, “We haven’t performed outside of NYC much of late and I thought this would be an incredible show to produce. Going beyond the expected format of singers in the round opening for a main act, we’ll be bringing out some new songs, from the Nashville retreat and sitting in with one another supported by the band. Look forward to a musically expansive evening that should give the audience a peek into the creative lives of active songwriters in today’s world -and you the audience will get to sing along!”
