SUMMARY:Sunday Brunch with Alex Prizgintas: Cello with a Flair – Salon St
 age
DESCRIPTION:\nComplimentary with Brunch\n\n\nOur Salon Stage provides Compl
imentary Live Music while you dine. We feature amazing local Hudson Valley
and touring artists on weekends. Join us for brunch and you may discover
one of your new favorite artists. As always\, we prioritize seating for gu
ests who are joining us for dinner. We also provide a great Tap Room for e
njoying a cocktail or beer while listening to the live music on our Salon
Stage.\n\n\n\n\nAuthor\, historian\, and musician Alex Prizgintas of Orang
e County has made a career of blending harmonies with the rich histories o
f composers and songwriters from decades past\, in addition to pushing the
classical cello into realms that are unique and unexpected. The Poughkeep
sie Journal recently wrote that Alex’s work both “inspires and amazes\
,” while the Times Herald-Record states that “he pushes the limits.”
They also wrote that he “brings his knowledge and interest of history a
nd music together.” Some of my favorite selections in the more than twel
ve programs I offer under the banner of 'Uber Arts: Delivering Food for th
e Soul' include Baroque cello suites of J.S. Bach\, Latin tangos such as A
stor Piazzolla’s “Libertango\,” and opera selections like Donizetti
’s “Una Furtiva Lagrima” and Verdi’s “La Donna Mobile” says Al
ex. "I enjoy the lyricism of opera especially when contrasted by the count
erpoint of jazz by masters like Miles Davis\, John Coltrane\, Dizzy Gilles
pie and Dave Brubeck. And then\, there are a few times where I stray towar
ds the rebellion of the mid-to-late 60’s British Invasion with groups li
 ke Cream\, Led Zeppelin\, and The Beatles—to name just a few."\n\nBut wi
th the cello being what it is\, Alex enjoys the root of its sound found in
the core repertoire of Bach’s Cello Suites and the generation of classi
cal composers who followed. “I think my original program titled ‘Bach-
2-Rock' says it succinctly in that I try to harvest the best and work dili
gently to not only recreate but rather create a unique retelling of what w
e might already personally know.” The unique sound of Alex Prizgintas an
d his augmented cello will be part of a special Sunday brunch at the Towne
Crier Cafe in Beacon\, NY on Sunday\, March 30th from 11:00-2:30. Classic
ally trained\, he employs non-classical tools like guitar effect pedals\,
a looping station\, and a mixing board. Equally comfortable with intimate
and stadium settings\, Alex is able to share a wide range of music that wi
ll include classical\, Jazz\, opera\, and some soft Rock n’ Roll for thi
s special Sunday event. Those familiar with Alex's work on the cello might
be surprised to learn that he holds a degree in history and a Master’s
in public administration from Marist College\, along with serving as town
historian of Woodbury in Orange County\, NY. “I tend to have two audienc
es\; those who know me as a cellist and those who know me through my lectu
res on topics of regional history. My bifurcated interests certainly keep
me busy developing new stories to share about our Hudson River Valley as w
ell as expanding my concert programs that strive to keep audiences engaged
\, enlightened and hopefully entertained.” To learn more and see other v
ideo samples of his music and lectures\, please visit alexprizgintas.com.\
 n\n\nReservations suggested\; call 845-855-1300 to book your table.\n\n
