SUMMARY:Steve Forbert\; special guest Bruce T Carroll
DESCRIPTION:Steve Forbert is a true American treasure\, a fact underscored
by his 21st album\, Daylight Savings Time. Like all his albums of original
songs\, it’s suffused with what venerated rock journalist Robert Christ
gau discerned as his “omnivorously observant” songwriting\, marked by
Steve’s gift for finding the deeper meaning and magic within the spectru
m of everyday moments\, as well as his abundant melodic and poetic enchant
ment.\n\nAs Forbert approaches the milestone of his 70th birthday\, Daylig
ht Savings Time contemplates and celebrates the proverbial ‘extra hour o
f daylight’ that comes with the time change. “Yeah to chirping cricket
s and to daylight savings time!” he sings on the album’s first single
“Sound Existence\,” “The best ain’t yet to come\, but you could st
ill get by just fine.”\n\nSteve arrived in New York City from his Meridi
an\, Mississippi hometown in 1976. He slotted seamlessly into the “new f
olk” revival in such Manhattan clubs as Folk City\, The Bitter End\, and
Kenny’s Castaways while taking the stage at CBGB\, ground zero of the b
urgeoning new wave/punk movement. He also busked on the streets of Greenwi
ch Village and in the elegant confines of Grand Central Station.\n\nHe qui
ckly won a major label deal with Nemperor/CBS Records and released his her
alded debut\, Alive on Arrival\, in 1978. His next album\, Jackrabbit Slim
\, released in 1979\, brought wider renown to Forbert with its #11 pop cha
rt hit “Romeo’s Tune.” It provided the stature for his troubadour ex
istence\, which has kept him active ever since as “a striking performer\
, very much worth seeing and hearing\,” according to the New York Times.
\n\nOver the span of eight years\, three albums\, three singles\, widespre
ad airplay and knockout reviews\, Bruce T Carroll has established himself
as an Americana artist with a social conscience and a deft lyrical touch.
Using irony and imagery as tools in trade\, Bruce’s work has been descri
bed by No Depression Magazine as “devilishly brilliant”\, “intensely
brilliant”\, and “a fine commentary on America’s past”. His signa
ture songs “When Two Worlds Collide”\, “Fox In The Henhouse”\, and
“Lift Your Head Up” continue to get good airplay worldwide\, spotligh
ting the refugee crisis and political upheaval at home and abroad. His las
t full-length album First Bird To Sing was an exploration of love and loss
and “a brilliant album that attacks the dark side with a TAC flashlight
and hope”\, solidifying Bruce’s reputation as a “singular talent”
. Bruce’s newly released (Oct ’25) single “Find Your Way” began as
a blessing for his children but ended as a beautiful paean for the dispos
 sessed.\n\nTickets $35 advance\, $40 door\n\nALL SALES ARE FINAL\n\nDINNER
