SUMMARY:Guthries Ghost & Guy Davis
DESCRIPTION:Guthries Ghost’s performance on Labor Day weekend has become
an annual tradition at the Towne Crier. This year\, renowned ambassador of
the blues tradition Guy Davis joins Guthries Ghost (Jacob and David Bernz
\, Fred Gillen Jr.\, Steve Kirkman\, Julie Corbalis and Jeff Eyrich) for a
n evening of songs honoring working people’s rights and the working trad
ition. The show is a hoot of sorts\, so who knows who else will show up!\n
\nGuthries Ghost formed in late summer of Woody Guthrie’s centennial yea
 r. More than a decade in\, their songs and shows have become more communit
y events then straight-up concerts\, with original songs and classics from
the folk tradition that bring us all together. But if you listen close yo
u may recognize something old that sounds brand new. Each of the members h
ave solo careers in their own right\, but it’s always a treat when they
get together once a year for this show.\n\nGuy Davis is a two-time\, back-
 to-back Grammy nominee for Best Traditional Blues\, a musician\, actor\, a
uthor and songwriter. Guy uses a blend of roots\, blues\, folk\, rock\, ra
p\, spoken word\, and world music to comment on\, and address\, the frustr
ations of social injustice\, touching on historical events\, and common li
fe struggles. His storytelling is sometimes painful\, deep\, and real\, an
earthy contrast to modern-day commercial music\, meant to create thought\
, underlined by gentle tones from his guitar or banjo fingerpicking.\n\nGu
y won “Keeping The Blues Alive” Award\, and was nominated by The Blues
Foundation for Best Acoustic Album of the Year\, Best Acoustic Artist of
the Year\, and Best Instrumentalist. In fact\, he’s been nominated nearl
y two dozen times by the Blues Foundation.\n\nWhen asked about his experie
nce as a performer\, Guy has replied\, “There is no tale so tall that I
cannot tell it\, nor song so sweet that I cannot sing it.”\n\nTickets $2
 5 advance\, $30 door\n\nALL SALES ARE FINAL\n\nDINNER RESERVATIONS REQUIRE
1 ENTREE PER PERSON\n\nSHOW ONLY TICKETS ADMITTED 15 MINUTES BEFORE SHOWT
IME\n\nADVANCE SALE PRICE ENDS 1 HOUR BEFORE DOORS
