SUMMARY:Gratefully Yours
DESCRIPTION:Gratefully Yours has quickly established itself as one of the N
 ortheast’s premier Grateful Dead tribute bands\; with a truly all-star l
ineup and often performing “dream” set lists submitted by their fans.
The band was founded in 2012 by Alex Mazur\, (founding member and keyboard
ist of The Deadbeats… one of\, if not the longest running Grateful Dead
cover bands in existence). Along with a core lineup that includes Adam Czo
lowski (Sonic Garden)\, Tom Pirozzi (Ominous Seapods)\, Jeff Martinson (Sh
akedown) and Rob Schiff (Nailed Shutt)\, other honored members include Vin
nie Amico (moe.)\, Rob Eaton (Dark Star Orchestra)\, Russ Lawton (Trey Ana
stasio Band)\, Bill Carbone (Max Creek) and Zach Nugent (Cats Under The St
ars).\n\nThe Dead were a truly unique band and had a unique bond with thei
r audience: Magic is what they did. Music was how they did it. Ultimately\
, it is that magic that Gratefully Yours aims to “cover” and pay tribu
te to. And taking it one step further\, they also encourage their audience
to participate further in the creative process by giving them the opportu
nity to submit their dream set lists (or vote for one) online and the band
often chooses one to perform at their shows. But of course\, you never kn

SUMMARY:Alash
DESCRIPTION:Alash are masters of Tuvan throat singing (xöömei)\, a remark
able technique for singing multiple pitches at the same time. What disting
uishes this trio from earlier generations of Tuvan throat singers is the s
ubtle infusion of modern influences into their traditional music. One can
find complex harmonies\, western instruments\, and contemporary song forms
in Alash’s music\, but its overall sound and spirit remain decidedly Tu
van.\n\nTrained in traditional Tuvan music since childhood\, the Alash mus
icians studied at Kyzyl Arts College just as Tuva was beginning to open up
to the West. They formed a traditional ensemble and won multiple awards f
or traditional throat singing in international xöömei competitions\, bot
h as an ensemble and as individuals. At the same time\, they paid close at
tention to new trends coming out of the West. They have borrowed newideas
that mesh well with the sound and feel of traditional Tuvan music\, but th
ey have never sacrificed the integrity of their own heritage in an effort
to make their music more hip.\n\nAlash first toured the U.S. under the spo
nsorship of the OpenWorld Leadership program of the Library of Congress an
d the National Endowment for the Arts. Since then they have returned many
times\, to the delight of American audiences. The Washington Post describe
d their music as “utterly stunning\,” quipping that after the performa
nce“audience members picked their jaws up off the floor.”\n\nAlash enj
oys collaborating with musicians of all stripes. Since their early partner
ship with the legendary Sun Ra Arkestra\, they have joined forces with mus
icians across the spectrum—from country to classical to jazz to beatboxi
ng. Alash appeared as guest artists on Béla Fleck &amp\; the Flecktones
’ Grammy-winning holiday CD Jingle All the Way (2008). They joined Chica
go’s innovative Fifth House Ensemble in a groundbreaking concert series
called Sonic Meditations\, and later were part of a “global jam band”
which recorded the soundtrack for the video game The Pathless. Most recent
ly\, Bady-Dorzhu Ondar teamed up with beatboxer Shodekeh in a live recordi
ng of original Tuvan songs filtered through the creative artistry of hip h
op musicians.\n\nBeyond performing\, Alash has a passion for teaching and
promoting understanding between cultures. Their tours often include worksh
ops in which they introduce Tuvan music to students in primary\, middle an
 d high schools\, colleges\, universities\, and music conservatories. Child
ren as young as 8 and 9 have learned to throat-sing. One inspired student

SUMMARY:Minstrels in the Gallery – A Tribute to Classic Jethro Tull
DESCRIPTION:Minstrels In The Gallery\, a 5-piece band based in Massachusett

s in the US and overseas\, including a long stint as featured soloist with

SUMMARY:Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas
DESCRIPTION:The musical partnership between consummate performer Alasdair F
raser\, “the Michael Jordan of Scottish fiddling\,” and brilliant Cali
fornian cellist Natalie Haas spans the full spectrum between intimate cham
ber music and ecstatic dance energy. Over the last 20 years of creating a
buzz at festivals and concert halls across the world\, they have truly set
the standard for fiddle and cello in traditional music. They continue to
thrill audiences internationally with their virtuosic playing\, their near
-telepathic understanding and the joyful spontaneity and sheer physical pr
esence of their music.\n\nFraser has a concert and recording career spanni
ng over 30 years\, with a long list of awards\, accolades\, radio and tele
vision credits\, and feature performances on top movie soundtracks (Last o
f the Mohicans\, Titanic\, etc.). In 2011\, he was inducted into the Scott
ish Traditional Music Hall of Fame. Haas\, a graduate of the Juilliard Sch
ool of Music\, is one of the most sought after cellists in traditional mus
ic today. She has performed and recorded with a who’s who of the fiddle
world including Mark O’Connor\, Natalie MacMaster\, Irish supergroups So
 las and Altan\, Liz Carroll\, Dirk Powell\, Brittany Haas\, Darol Anger\,
Jeremy Kittel\, Hanneke Cassel\, Laura Cortese\, and many more.\n\nThis se
emingly unlikely pairing of fiddle and cello is the fulfillment of a long-
standing musical dream for Fraser. His search eventually led him to find a
cellist who could help return the cello to its historical role at the rhy
thmic heart of Scottish dance music\, where it stood for hundreds of years
before being relegated to the orchestra. The duo’s debut recording\, Fi
re &amp\; Grace\, won the coveted the Scots Trad Music “Album of the Yea
r” award\, the Scottish equivalent of a Grammy. Since its release\, the
two have gone on to record three more critically acclaimed albums that ble
nd a profound understanding of the Scottish tradition with cutting-edge st
ring explorations. In additional to performing\, they both have motivated
generations of string players through their teaching at fiddle camps acros

SUMMARY:Leo Kottke
DESCRIPTION:Acoustic guitarist Leo Kottke was born in Athens\, Georgia\, bu
t left town after a year and a half. Raised in 12 different states\, he ab
sorbed a variety of musical influences as a child\, flirting with both vio
lin and trombone\, before abandoning Stravinsky for the guitar at age 11.\
n\nAfter adding a love for the country-blues of Mississippi John Hurt to t
he music of John Phillip Sousa and Preston Epps\, Kottke joined the Navy u
nderage\, to be underwater\, and eventually lost some hearing shooting at
lightbulbs in the Atlantic while serving on the USS Halfbeak\, a diesel su
bmarine.\n\nKottke had previously entered college at the U of Missouri\, d
ropping out after a year to hitchhike across the country to South Carolina
\, then to New London and into the Navy\, with his twelve string. “The t
rip was not something I enjoyed\,” he has said. “I was broke and met t
oo many interesting people.”\n\nDischarged in 1964\, he settled in the T
win Cities area and became a fixture at Minneapolis’ Scholar Coffeehouse
\, which had been home to Bob Dylan and John Koerner. He issued his 1968 r
ecording debut LP “Twelve String Blues\,” recorded on a Viking quarter
-inch tape recorder\, for the Scholar’s tiny Oblivion label.\n\nAfter se
nding tapes to guitarist John Fahey\, Kottke was signed to Fahey’s Takom
a label\, releasing what has come to be called the Armadillo record. Fahey
and his manager Denny Bruce soon secured a production deal for Kottke wit
 h Capitol Records.\n\nKottke’s 1971 major-label debut\, “Mudlark\,”
positioned him somewhat uneasily in the singer/songwriter vein\, despite h
is own wishes to remain an instrumental performer. Still\, despite argumen
ts with label heads as well as with Bruce\, Kottke flourished during his t
enure on Capitol\, as records like 1972’s “Greenhouse” and 1973’s
live “My Feet Are Smiling” and “Ice Water” found him branching out
with guest musicians and honing his guitar technique.\n\nWith 1975’s
 “Chewing Pine\,” Kottke reached the U.S. Top 30 for the second time\;
he also gained an international following thanks to his continuing tours i
n Europe and Australia.\n\nHis collaboration with Phish bassist Mike Gordo
n\, “Clone\,” caught audiences’ attention in 2002. Kottke and Gordon
followed with a recording in the Bahamas called “Sixty Six Steps\,” p
roduced by Leo’s old friend and Prince producer David Z.\n\nKottke has b

SUMMARY:Steve Forbert Trio
DESCRIPTION:Steve returns with a Trio format for this show!\n\nSteve Forber
 t is a true American treasure\, a fact underscored by his 21st album\, Day
light Savings Time. Like all his albums of original songs\, it’s suffuse
d with what venerated rock journalist Robert Christgau discerned as his
“omnivorously observant” songwriting\, marked by Steve’s gift for fi
nding the deeper meaning and magic within the spectrum of everyday moments
\, as well as his abundant melodic and poetic enchantment.\n\nAs Forbert a
pproaches the milestone of his 70th birthday\, Daylight Savings Time conte
mplates and celebrates the proverbial ‘extra hour of daylight’ that co
mes with the time change. “Yeah to chirping crickets and to daylight sav
ings time!” he sings on the album’s first single “Sound Existence\,
” “The best ain’t yet to come\, but you could still get by just fine
.”\n\nSteve arrived in New York City from his Meridian\, Mississippi hom
etown in 1976. He slotted seamlessly into the “new folk” revival in su
ch Manhattan clubs as Folk City\, The Bitter End\, and Kenny’s Castaways
while taking the stage at CBGB\, ground zero of the burgeoning new wave/p
unk movement. He also busked on the streets of Greenwich Village and in th
e elegant confines of Grand Central Station.\n\nHe quickly won a major lab
el deal with Nemperor/CBS Records and released his heralded debut\, Alive
 on Arrival\, in 1978. His next album\, Jackrabbit Slim\, released in 1979\
, brought wider renown to Forbert with its #11 pop chart hit “Romeo’s
Tune.” It provided the stature for his troubadour existence\, which has
kept him active ever since as “a striking performer\, very much worth se
