SUMMARY:Alison Brown Quintet
DESCRIPTION:Acoustic instrumental music has never been so beautifully repre
sented as by Alison Brown. As one of the most multi-faceted minds on today
’s roots music scene\, every one of Alison’s endeavors is marked by in
novation\, intelligence\, and grace. As a banjo player\, she throws out th
e textbook when it comes playing the banjo and the result is a sound that
blends the rugged drive of bluegrass with the harmonic sensibilities of ja
zz\, earning vast acclaim in the process.\n\nAlison Brown is a GRAMMY-winn
ing musician\, GRAMMY-nominated producer\, former investment banker (with
an AB from Harvard and an MBA from UCLA)\, and co-founder of The Compass R
ecords Group\, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2023. Her collabo
rations with actor/comedian and fellow banjo player Steve Martin include t
 he 2025 release\, “Safe Sensible and Sane\,” and they’ve performed t
ogether on late-night TV to promote that album.\n\nAlthough Alison began h
er musical career as a teenager in the Southern California bluegrass scene
\, she has built a reputation as one of today’s most forward thinking an
d innovative banjo players. She is known for taking the instrument far b
eyond its Appalachian roots by blending bluegrass and jazz influences in
to a sonic tapestry that has earned praise and recognition from a variety
of national tastemakers including The Wall Street Journal\, CBS Sunday
Morning\, NPR\, and USA Today.\n\nAlison is the recipient of the USA Arti
