BROTHER SUN featuring Pat Wictor, Greg Greenway and Joe Jencks

Fri, 5/24, 8:30pm BROTHER SUN, featuring Pat Wictor, Greg Greenway & Joe Jencks

National touring artists Joe Jencks, Greg Greenway and Pat Wictor have made their mark as veteran touring singer-songwriters. But, Brother Sun is no songwriter's round. The trio's harmonies, as much as their lyrics, tell what they are about: warm as a campfire, stirring as a gospel church, rousing as a call to arms. Fusing folk, Americana, blues, pop, jazz, rock and a cappella singing, Brother Sun is an explosion of musical diversity and harmony in the finest of male singing traditions. From three major points on the map – Chicago, Boston, and New York – Joe, Greg and Pat celebrate the amazing power of singing together, their rich voices blending on a well-crafted foundation of guitar, slide guitar, bouzouki and piano. | Brother Sun's home (w/ audio & video ♪) | FB | watch ♪ | listen ♪

DEAN FRIEDMAN, composer of Ariel, Lucky Stars, Lydia

Sat, 5/25, 8:30pm DEAN FRIEDMAN; guest Paul Stafford

Returning after a long absence from the Towne Crier's stage, Dean Friedman first marked his entry into pop consciousness with the top 20 chart success of his infectious hit single, Ariel, a quirkily irresistible and uncategorizable pop song about a free spirited, pot-smoking, vegetarian Jewish girl in a peasant blouse who lived, as the lyric goes, "...way on the other side of the Hudson." Friedman scored again with the release of his follow up album, "Well, Well," Said The Rocking Chair, and the now classic hit single, Lucky Stars. This magical duet, performed with singer Denise Marsa, zoomed to the top of the UK singles charts, going instantly gold. Lucky Stars paved the way for a slew of Friedman hits, including familiar radio staples such as Lydia, Rocking Chair, McDonald's Girl and Woman Of Mine. Friedman's latest CD, Submarine Races, has been receiving rave reviews from fans and critics alike, with lyrical soundscapes and story-songs, bursting with life, love and survival in a surreal world. | Dean Friedman's home | FB | watch ♪ | listen ♪

HEY BABY Band

Sun, 5/26, 7:30pm HEY BABY Band; guest Don Lowe

This year marks the 30th anniversary of The Hey Baby Band. The concept was brought to the stage by Jimmy Ekizian, Hey Baby's remarkable lead singer and trumpet player. Uninspired by the MTV revolution of the '80s, Jimmy launched a band capable of recapturing the magic of the music from the '60s and '70s. R&B, Soul, Funk, Blues and Rock 'n' Roll make up the foundation that keeps the magic alive. "Hey Baby" recreates the music of Otis Redding, James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Van Morrison, Chicago, Sly & The Family Stone, The Beatles, The Doors, Joe Cocker, Santana, The Allman Brothers, War, Elvis Costello and many others – with a signature sound all their own. Infectious rhythms and dynamic horns keep the crowds dancing to the very last note. | The Hey Baby Band's home (w/audio ♪)

DAVE ALVIN & The Guilty Ones; with special guest David Ray

Sat, 6/8, 8:30pm DAVE ALVIN & The Guilty Ones; guest David Ray

Dave Alvin, Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter and self-described "barroom guitarist," is widely considered to be one of the pivotal founders of the current Americana music scene. A fourth generation Californian, Dave Alvin grew up in Downey, California as the local landscape quickly evolved from orange groves and dairy farms to tract homes and freeways. He went on to found The Blasters with his brother, Phil, a group he left to go on to other bands including "X" and The Knitters, record solo projects such as King Of California, and to head project groups such as The Guilty Men and The Guilty Women. As Dave says with sly chuckle, "My songs are not necessarily true, but they're all autobiographical." | Dave Alvin's home (w/video ♪) | watch ♪

Farewell to Pawling concert with The GRAND SLAMBOVIANS, formerly Gandalf Murphy and The Slambovian Circus of Dreams

Sun, 6/9, 7:30pm "Farewell To Pawling Concert" with The GRAND SLAMBOVIANS

Come out to the Towne Crier's final concert in Pawling before our move to Beacon, NY! :|: The Grand Slambovians (formerly Gandalf Murphy & The Slambovian Circus of Dreams) have been called "the hillbilly Pink Floyd," which is an apt description, particularly if you throw in elements of Incredible String Band, Neil Young, The Band, Dylan and maybe even some Frank Zappa as well – a clear indicator of its singularly indescribable uniqueness. At the same time, their sound and even their songs feel so familiar, so classic, it's as if you've been listening to these characters all your life. Upon returning recently from the U.K. this fall where they spread their contagious brand of quirky Americana from Glasgow to Penzance, the band completed work on their fourth studio album, The Grand Slambovians. The advent of The Grand Slambovians is both the band's latest reincarnation and the title of their new, soul stirring album. | The Grand Slambovians' home (w/ audio & video ♪) | FB | watch ♪ | listen/download ♪
