VIENNA TENG
with special guest
ARI HEST
Not so long ago, being a singer-songwriter was merely a hobby for Vienna Teng, a computer science grad on the fast track to a lucrative career in Silicon Valley. But, Vienna gave all that up to pursue her true passion: music.
Vienna Teng's first major national exposure was on Late Night with Letterman. Since then, Vienna has made appearances on the CBS Saturday Early Show, NPR's Weekend Edition, CNN's NewsNight with Aaron Brown and The Wayne Brady Show. Teng has also opened concerts for Joan Baez, Shawn Colvin, Joan Osborne, Sarah Harmer and Marc Cohn. Teng's first album, Waking Hour, peaked at #5 on the Amazon bestseller list; her second album, Warm Strangers, reached #2!
Vienna Teng has won accolades as much for her soprano vocals ("smooth and sophisticated" -Washington Times) as for her lyrics ("smart and introspective" -Philadelphia Daily News). The San Jose Mercury News calls Teng "a child of Chopin and Sarah McLachlan." Call it "chamber folk" or "classically-influenced pop," Vienna Teng's music is a most enchanting new sound!
More about Vienna Teng
Already signed to a major, Ari Hest made the artistic decision to take a step back: he opted out of his label deal so that he could have more control over his art. He then embarked on his ambitious "52" project, during which he spent all of last year immersed in an unprecedented effort: to write, record, produce and release one new song per week, for 52 weeks in a row!
Now, Hest has self-release his new studio CD, Twelve Mondays, featuring reworked versions of 12 fan-selected songs culled from the past year's extraordinary output. "Twelve Mondays" showcases the diversity of Hest's songwriting ~ from the haunting, minimasterpiece "Broken Voices" to USA Today's Listen Up Music Pick, The Weight, which was praised as a "poignant, acoustic reverie."
