BOB MALONE

Maria Muldaur's musical roots run as deep and varied as the Greenwich Village she grew up in, amidst bluegrass, folk, blues, jazz and gospel. She was influenced by everyone from Bessie Smith to the rock'n'roll played by DJ Alan Freed. She even studied fiddle with Doc Watson and his family. At the age of 21 she joined John Sebastian and Steve Katz to form the Even Dozen Jug Band, and soon joined the Jim Kweskin Jug Band, appearing on five albums with the group. After two albums with her husband Geoff, she went solo, releasing the gold record, "Midnight at the Oasis." Eleven solo albums since then have showcased her ability in jazz, pop, folk, gospel, R&B, and blues. Her CD Fanning the Flames features guest artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Huey Lewis, Sonny Landreth and Mavis Staples. Her release, Transblucency, carries her jazz styling further and has drawn wide acclaim. Working also in the musical theatre, she has accepted roles in touring company versions of Pump Boys and Dinettes and Pirates of Penzance. It's a privilege to bring her and her band back to the Cafe.

BOB MALONE
What do you say about a two-fisted pianoman-singer-songwriter whose chops can blow the doors off any venue, and whose road-ready showmanship regularly leaves the audience hooting and howling for more? How do you categorize a down-home guy who came from the swamps of Jersey, but whose music swings with the soul of New Orleans? ...an artist who writes songs that can tug your heart or split your sides with sardonic laughter, often at the same time? ...an artist who has complete command of the entire spectrum of American roots music -- blues, jazz, ragtime, boogie woogie and more -- and drags it all, kicking and screaming, into the twenty first century? Ladies and gents, BOB MALONE is that man ...and yes, he is that good.
