SAM LARDNER & BARCELONA
also
JIM DAWSON
Sam Lardner's music draws from a passionately-lived and well-traveled life. A versatile artist from Barcelona, Spain, he can deliver a set of smoking-hot acoustic tunes with his marvelous trio or settle in for a solo set of ballads full of rich story telling and melodies that have audiences laughing, crying, singing and, on occasion, dancing on chairs. Sam is currently recording his fourth CD, which he describes as "Mediterranean Bluegrass Rumba Folk". Veteran music critic from Barcelona, Pep Tort, recently wrote, "This guy is all humanity!" We are very happy to welcome this special artist back to the Towne Crier.
More about Sam Lardner
Jim Dawson is a seasoned professional with a great many recordings under his belt, and a large body of intensely loyal admirers of his songwriting and his amazing voice. He's warm, genuine and personable, and his magic is especially powerful in concert. We're pleased to welcome him for his second featured Cafe appearance.
Thirty years ago, Dawson launched his career with a critically acclaimed debut record Songman, and its songs made it a classic in the hearts of thousands. Nine albums have been released since Songman debuted, and now, in partnership with Contender Records, Jim has now had the rare opportunity to re-consider and re-record these songs that helped shape his career and his life. The songs were reborn, and with a vengeance- all brilliant re-interpretations by the writer himself, of songs that could just as easily have been written yesterday as 30 years ago. This is in essence a new record, as relevant and meaningful as anything being considered today. Jim Dawson, Seth David Walter, and Steven Donaghey played all the instruments on the record.
Dan Aquilante, in his New York Post review of the new Songman, hears in Dawson "an appealing Everyman quality in his supple voice and in acoustic guitar work" and "the musical tradition of Harry Chapin and James Taylor." Dawson's lyrics, he adds, "show him as a man with an eye for detail and the ability to tell a story with humor or irony."
