PETER KARP & THE ROAD SHOW BAND
also
LIPBONE REDDING ORCHESTRA
Featured performers from New Years Eve return for a fun
evening!
Returning for their
second appearance at the Cafe, Peter Karp, singer-songwriter,
guitarist, keyboard player, resides in Nashville and New Jersey
and anyplace in between, thanks to his trusty RV. Once, a passerby
asked, "Sir, are you a vagabond?" To which Karp replied,
"Well, I'm a songwriter and musician, so I guess the answer
is yes." "guys like Peter Karp, James Taylor and Bob
Dylan embody Americana music
" That's coming from Mick
Taylor. The legendary Rolling Stones guitarist lent his inimitable
sound to Karp's latest effort, The Turning Point. "I was
immediately attracted to his songs and voice, finding out he
was a great stage performer as well was a pleasant surprise."
By bucking taking his lyrics as seriously as his music, Karp
has carved a niche for himself as one of the contemporary Americana
blues / Roots artists to keep a watch on. Blues Revue magazine
concurs, comparing him to "John Prine and Jackson Brown.
"The Turning Point," features former Rolling Stones
guitarist Mick Taylor who joined Peter for a 10-show, sold-out
tour. With accolades from the Star Ledger, Blues Revue Magazine,
Billboard, the New York Daily News, The Gannett Press and more,
it's only a matter of time before Peter secures his rightful
place on the national scene. His newest release is entitled Shadows
and Cracks.
More about Peter Karp
Lipbone
Redding has developed the uncanny ability to convincingly emulate
the sounds of a trumpet or trombone with remarkable precision.
Everything on his new CD, Hop the Fence, that sounds like a horn
is actually the product of Lipbone¹s voice and lips. Even
more notable than this talent is Lipbone¹s ability to write
Jazz, Blues, Jam and Soul savvy songs and then incorporate his
unique skill into them. He also has some help from Jeff Eyrich
on upright bass and Rich Zukor on drums -- both veteran players
and heavy duty cats who are also the rhythm section for DAVE'S
TRUE STORY. Together they are the LIPBONE ORCHESTRA. Lipbone
can vocalize the sounds of horns, keys, drums, and bass lines,
taking stylistic cues from the likes of LOUIS ARMSTRONG, CURTIS
MAYFIELD, and DR.JOHN.
Lipbone has the sly charm
of the Southern bluesman, the cool wisdom of a New York folkie,
and a creative energy that brings folk and Folk together. His
list of influences and experiences is as long and varied as the
list of venues where he has played (Lipbone does more than 200
live shows per year.) He was one of the original collaborators
of LOVESPHERE, an avant-garde multimedia event arranged for the
Museum of Sound Recording that included full choirs, 20 or 30
guitars, completely nude musicians, household electronics, appliances,
and flame throwers. Lipbone also spends his time providing music
for the acclaimed Bill T. Jones/ Arnie Zane Dance Company. His
work with the modern dance troupe was described as "Remarkable!"
by The New York Times.
