KARI SPIELER
Hailing from Boston, Johnny A. came up through the ranks playing any and every high school and church dance he could. Graduating to the "Boston Rock" and club scene, Johnny A. led bands that played every major and not so major venue and shared stages with Aerosmith, the Cars, Cheap Trick, Bad Co., the Smithereens, Dave Edmunds, Bob Seger, David Johansen, Yes, Brian Setzer Orchestra and Hootie and the Blowfish.
After years of fronting his own bands, he chose to become a sideman playing with artists such as Bobby Whitlock, Mingo Lewis and most recently with J. Geils frontman, Peter Wolf. In 2000, he placed himself front and center with an all new guitar instrumental project and CD, "sometime tuesday morning," in which his guitar is his 'voice.' Johnny A.'s music has been embraced by critics and fans. Creating your own 'voice' and carving out a name for yourself is an almost impossible task for a guitarist these days. It takes perseverance, and being brutally honest with one's own self assessment. Johnny A. has managed to do both of these things. We look forward to his return to the Towne Crier.
More about Johnny A
Kari Spieler has always written her music in a true-to-herself way. Somewhere between passionate vocals, meaningful lyrics and beautiful melodies is a picture of a girl just trying to make it. "There is something that hits you in the gut when you watch her perform live." Says a good friend of Kari's, "It's truly an indescribable feeling when she opens her mouth." John W. Barry (Poughkeepsee Journal music writer) had Kari's song "JAK (Goodbye)" at #4 in his top 10 list of songs for 2007.
