TONY TRISCHKA
and
TIM ERIKSEN
Tony Trischka is perhaps the most influential banjo player in the roots music world. For more than 35 years, Tony's stylings have inspired a whole generation of bluegrass and acoustic musicians, including Bela Fleck – one of his early students. With his fearless musical curiosity as the guiding force, Tony Trischka's latest critically acclaimed release, Territory, roams widely through the banjo's creative terrain, exploring a panorama of tunings, banjo sounds and traditions with fellow banjoists Pete Seeger, Mike Seeger, Bill Evans, Bill Keith and Bruce Molsky. Other musicians Trischka has collaborated with include Steve Martin, Peter Rowan, Earl Scruggs and many other luminaries. It's likely you've already enjoyed his playing – possibly on the soundtrack of Driving Miss Daisy, on Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion, Mountain Stage or any of a number of other places his inventive work has appeared over the years.
More about Tony Trischka
Fans of hardcore Americana singer/multi-instrumentalist Tim Eriksen ("Cordelia's Dad" band; "Cold Mountain" soundtrack) know him for his hair-raising voice and intense renditions of ancient American songs. Hailed as "among the world's finest folk practitioners" (Toronto Star), Tim's sound is a tightrope walk balancing tradition and innovation, as becomes someone who has shared the stage with both Doc Watson and Kurt Cobain, and recorded with both Ralph Stanley and Jack White. He combines raw vocals with savvy arrangements for fiddle, banjo, guitar and bajo sexto, alternating stripped-down story songs and old gospel with quirky originals. His new solo album "Northern Roots Live in Namest" highlights the power of New England murder ballads, stark "shape-note" tunes and love songs with a dose of Irish and Southern Appalachian sounds. He also recently collaborated with world-jazz pianist Omar Sosa on the Grammy-nominated album "Across the Divide."
