CALIFORNIA GUITAR TRIO
With
a whirlwind of instrumental style and repertoire fusing classical,
rock, blues, jazz, and bluegrass, as well as the quintessential
California musical genre, surf music, the California Guitar Trio's
stunning virtuosity and sly sense of humor have earned the title
Guitar Shop magazine dubbed "the world's greatest
acoustic band". Worldwide, wildly enthusiastic crowds have
responded with standing ovations during CGT's sold-out concerts
as head-liners and on tour with King Crimson, David Sylvian and
John McLaughlin. All this began in 1991 in Los Angeles by three
guys armed with only acoustic guitars- Bert Lams (Belgium), a
classically trained graduate of the Royal Conservatory in Brussels,
Paul Richards (USA), the resident rocker and guitar effects aficionado,
and Hideyo Moriya (Japan), surf guitar specialist. The CGT's
original music was heard by millions on the U.S. broadcasts of
the 1996 and 1998 Olympic Games, and is regularly played by NBC,
CBS and ESPN as an exciting backdrop for TV sports programs.
The National Public Radio program All Things Considered
recently aired a feature on the band. With four albums released
since 1993, the CGT has arrived at a new height in exploring
an increasingly diverse selection of musical styles- brought
to life with mind-blowing musicianship and an unabashed emphasis
on good fun. And on stage, the Trio are at their best. Acoustic
Guitar magazine said, "The CGT will knock your socks
off. The tight ensemble creates sounds that range from raindrop
pointillism to a three-ton harpsichord gone berserk".
